Living on Limbo Lane

Have you ever had one of those “Aha moments” or maybe it was an “Ohhhh Ahhh moment” where you realize you’re just not as young and supple as you once were? Bending to touch your toes is a monumental occasion and leaves you sore for days? Or maybe…you’re like me and you go an entire day before you realize you haven’t taken a single deep breath!?

Fear not…that is why Kathy MacKinnon opened Amherst Yoga and Reiki!

Born in Nova Scotia, and having lived in Newfoundland, Maine, Ohio, Saudi Arabia, and New Hampshire…Kathy radiates warmth, hospitality, and an up-for-anything attitude. You may attribute her flexible nature to her many travels requiring her to adapt to various environments. You may say that her three children and two grandchildren are the reason for her beaming smile and abundant mindset. And you may credit her peaceful, calm, and judgement-free instruction style to her 17 years of teaching elementary students. Whatever is to thank, Kathy MacKinnon is making it happen and living out her passion each and every day in her work.  Enough from me…let’s hear from the lady on the meditation cushion.

Tell Us About Your Business…

Kathy has had a desire to do yoga her entire life; in fact, she was well ahead of her time in the 80’s when yoga was just taking root (chakra pun intended). She went to school for nutrition and then became a teacher but ever since she was that awkward 13 year-old teenager, she practiced yoga and it became more than just a part of her life –it was a part of her.

From 2011-2015, she was living in Saudi Arabia and teaching when her own yoga master said she should begin her yoga training. In the summer of 2015, she was up and running full speed ahead towards owning her own business.

Kathy now teaches 5 yoga classes at her studio; (quite fittingly on Limbo Ln. in Amherst, NH) 3 gentle yoga classes, and 2 standard/advanced. She also teaches classes at the Milford Rec. Department, Milford Medical Center, teacher’s yoga at Hollis Brookline Memorial School and Jacques Memorial Schools, and Summerfield Way (a 55+ community in Amherst). In addition to all of these classes, she also offers private yoga and Reiki as well. Her studio is a safe place to increase core strength, flexibility, and unify the mind, body, and soul. The yoga practice is ideal for all ages, mobilities, and illness.

What do You Love About Living and Working in the Souhegan Valley?

Here in New Hampshire, where the beauty of the land and the sea are both easily accessible, Kathy loves the ability to participate in a variety of different activities. “Everyone can find what they are looking for,” she says. She loves the people here and showing authentic people an authentic yoga practice and empowering them to care for their health.
